Meta's Metaverse Division Reports a Deficit of Over $3.7B for the Third Quarter. WikiBit 2022-10-27 18:16

According to its financial results made public on Wednesday, Meta's Facebook Reality Labs (FRL) subsidiary recorded a third-quarter loss of more than $3.7 billion while only generating $285 million.

The creation and research of Meta's digital and augmented realities, as well as its metaverse activities, are handled by the FRL.

The $558 million company made the previous year was downgraded to $285 million in sales for the quarter.

The setback came after a series of setbacks that went back several quarters. The FRl has lost $9.4 billion so far this year versus $6.9 billion during the same period last year.

Mark Zuckerberg, CEO and founder of Meta, said:

“Our community continues to grow, and I'm pleased with the strong engagement we're seeing driven by progress on our discovery engine and products like Reels,”

He further said, “While we face near-term challenges on revenue, the fundamentals are there for a return to stronger revenue growth. We're approaching 2023 with a focus on prioritization and efficiency that will help us navigate the current environment and emerge an even stronger company.”

In Wednesday's after-hours trade, Meta stocks decreased by over 15%. This year, shares have fallen more than 60%.

According to a previous Wall Street Journal (WSJ) report, the company's flagship metaverse system Horizon Worlds is having trouble attracting new customers and performing up to internal performance standards.

By the year of 2022, Meta has set a preliminary target of 500,000 regular monthly users for Horizon Worlds. Over the last week, the business has revised that figure to 280,000. The WSJ reports that internal documents indicate the actual number is a little less than 200,000.

Based on the papers obtained by the WSJ, user behavior at Horizon Worlds has shown that users cease using the app after the first month and that the user base has been steadily declining since March 2022.

In Horizon, users posing as avatars can buy, party, and work in a vast array of dynamic virtual settings, or “worlds.”
